As louvres are an integral part of the building envelope, aesthetics are an important part of the specification process. However, it is very important that performance criteria are not compromised in favour of a more aesthetically pleasing configuration. For example, louvres can be hidden behind features or perforated panels (which can also act as bird and insect screens) but it is important to remember that this can increase resistance to air flow through the louvre and therefore may mean a larger area of louvres may be needed to counteract this.
Fortunately, louvres come in a wide range of designs and colours to suit any application, and CS can guide you through the specification process.
Hidden Mullion Systems
A louvre system that uses hidden mullions, gives clean, architectural lines because the support system is behind the blades, making the mullions almost invisible. Mullions can be spaced roughly every 1 to 2m and blades are typically 3 to 4m long, (usually dictated by transport restrictions and the weight of the blades). Hidden mullion systems are normally used to provide screening and protection to buildings with multiple openings.

Visible Mullion Systems
Louvres with visible mullions, can be used as a design feature, to line up with curtain wall panels or windows. Again spaced every 1 to 2m, visible mullions bring additional benefits, as they are designed to be part of the building envelope’s drainage system, helping reduce water ingress.

Texture, colour and enhanced shadow lines can transform the louvres from something you want to hide into a major design feature. All without sacrificing performance.
CS Bold Line includes fully tested rain defence and ventilation louvres, with a choice of an uninterrupted louvre line or exposed mullions, and in a vast array of colour options and finishes.
New CS Perform provides all the air movement, security and sight screening of standard CS Louvres, but with our exclusive perforated facade that gives it a fresh modern appearance.
The range includes rain defence and ventilation louvre options and has been tested for air performance and water penetration.
